Book Group

This month’s book was  Remember Mr Sharma by A.P. Firdaus.  This book was well received by all of us, even those who had initial doubts about it. The book was set in 1997 the fiftieth year of Independence for India and Pakistan, with the main character a school boy who encounters a talking vulture who takes him back to the time of partition.

Most people enjoyed the historical and cultural aspects of the book and the whole story in general. The book scored a 9 ,  which so far is one of our best books this year.

Next meeting: Wednesday 17 September  7.30 Laycocks -The Cleaner of Chatres by Sally Vickers.

Book Group meetings - 3rd Wednesday of the month, 7.30pm at Laycocks Sports Club. For full details see Upcoming Books

Social Events

As Social Events have grown we have decided to give them their own space rather than overload the general monthly news roundup. These updates will be emailed as necessary.

In the meantime, be prepared and complete the online Social Events Declaration form that must be filled in by anyone wishing to take part in an event. The Declaration can be completed online (you'll find it on the members page), or alternatively it can be completed during a monthly meeting.

For future events see Upcoming Social Events book online or at the Social Events Desk

Charity

Once the summer festival season is over we will be contacting Sarah to plan some group visits, for those who would like to have a guided tour of the farm September/October.

Heeley City Farm’s next event is a food and beer festival on September 27th.

We will not be having a stall at this event, but encourage you to go along.

Have your say

If you have any thoughts or ideas you'd like to share or suggest please use the Contact Us form so we can follow it up.
