Book Group

The book, Orbital by Samantha Harvey, generated a lot of discussion even though no-one really enjoyed it and couldn't think of anyone to whom they would recommend it. Fran used the word "nebulous", which we all agreed described it well. We would have liked more about the individual astronauts and fewer very long sentences full of adjectives.

Other books that we talked about were:

  • Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn

  • Maude Horton' Glorious Revenge - Lizzie Pook

  • The Bastwick Testament - David Blake

  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - Taylor Jenkins Reid

  • Dark Horse - Felix Francis

  • The Hallmarked Man - Robert Galbraith

  • The Rose Field - Philip Pullman

  • Hidden Norfolk Series - J M Dalgliesh

Next Book Group: Wednesday January 21st - 7.30 Laycocks

Next Book T

The Hive by Gill Hornby

Amazon paperback £9.19

Kindle £3.99

World of Books £3.60 (free postage)

Social Events

As Social Events have grown we have decided to give them their own space rather than overload the general monthly news roundup. These updates will be emailed as necessary.

In the meantime, be prepared and complete the online Social Events Declaration form that must be filled in by anyone wishing to take part in an event. The Declaration can be completed online (you'll find it on the members page), or alternatively it can be completed during a monthly meeting.

For future events see Upcoming Social Events book online or at the Social Events Desk
