Meeting Roundup

Our visiting speaker at the September meeting was Matt from Don Valley River Trust who told us a little of the history of the river Don and other significant rivers of Sheffield. He explained all about the conservation work they do to maintain the habitat of plants and animals along the Don , which has been so successful that Salmon are starting to come back after 200yrs! He explained the measures they have put in place to enable the Salmon to successfully navigate upstream to the spawning area.

NB: A request from Louise - Does any one have any fabric suitable to make bonding type squares approximately 11” X11” or could make some double thickness squares please?

They are for families in Gynaecology, who have miscarried as wool blankets are not suitable. They would appreciate anything as their stocks are running low.

If you have fabric but are unable to sew the square, or are willing to make squares please contact Jan asap.

You do not have to come to knit and natter meetings to join in with our charity knitting, contact Jan for patterns etc for our WIPs.

Book Group

This month’s book was The Cleaner of Chartres by Sally Vickers. On the whole most people enjoyed the book, and said that it was a gentle read. The characters were well described and developed throughout the book. There was some confusion about the time setting of the story which initially felt it could have been in the early 1900s, which was disproved with

references later in the book to mobile phones!! Some people also thought that the ending was was rather truncated and abrupt. Overall the book scored 7.3

Book Group meetings - 3rd Wednesday of the month, 7.30pm at Laycocks Sports Club. For full details see Upcoming Books

Social Events

As Social Events have grown we have decided to give them their own space rather than overload the general monthly news roundup. These updates will be emailed as necessary.

In the meantime, be prepared and complete the online Social Events Declaration form that must be filled in by anyone wishing to take part in an event. The Declaration can be completed online (you'll find it on the members page), or alternatively it can be completed during a monthly meeting.

For future events see Upcoming Social Events book online or at the Social Events Desk

Charity

Heeley City Farm’s next event is a food and beer festival on September 27th.

We will not be having a stall at this event, but encourage you to go along

Have your say

If you have any thoughts or ideas you'd like to share or suggest please use the Contact Us form so we can follow it up.
