Meeting Roundup

Last month Nik & Carolyn ran a macrame workshop giving our members a chance to make a macrame plant pot hanging holder. This activity needed a lot of concentration and some members forged ahead totally getting to grips with the logistics of manipulating numerous long threads of Tshirt yarn, whilst others wrestled with a very knotty problem and in some cases gave up and just had a nice chat and drink.
Next meeting: Wednesday 7 May.

Book Group

This months book The Seal Woman's gift by Sally Magnusson was an Icelandic story based upon true facts about the raid by Turkish corsairs from Algiers and Morocco on The Icelandic Westerman Isles and the abducting of a large number of the population to be sold as slaves in Algiers. The book was deemed a well written book and told a story of a piece of history that we knew little about. It was well researched and the contrasts between the two continents were well described. There were mixed reviews with some people finding it hard to get into and others loving it. The book scored 7.5/10.

  • NB - Books and jigsaw puzzle swaps are available at monthly meetings for a donation

    of £1.

  • Next meeting: Wednesday 21 May 7.30 Laycocks - Go as a river by Shelley Read

Social Events

As Social Events have grown we have decided to give them their own space rather than overload the general monthly news roundup. These updates will be emailed as necessary.

In the meantime, be prepared and complete the online Social Events Declaration form that must be filled in by anyone wishing to take part in an event. The Declaration can be completed online (you'll find it on the members page), or alternatively it can be completed during a monthly meeting.

For future events see Upcoming Social Events book online or at the Social Events Desk

Charity

Our Charity for the coming year will be Heeley City Farm. Members of the committee will be meeting with representatives of The Farm in May to discuss how we can help and to plan a visit. We have also invited someone from the Farm to come to our meeting in June

Have your say

If you have any thoughts or ideas you'd like to share or suggest please use the Contact Us form so we can follow it up.
