Meeting Roundup
We were very artistic at July’s meeting following a brief talk from Lucy, a local book illustrator. Several members brought along examples of leaves, twigs, and flowers to have a go at drawing, whilst Lucy went round and offered advice.

Next meeting: As usual there is no formal meeting in August, however we are meeting informally on Wednesday 6 August at 7.30 The Wagon & Horses Pub, Abbeydale Rd South. Please book via the website.
Fundraiser : Woodseats festival 20th July was almost on a par (but not quite) with our Christmas stall during Storm Bert last year! We had to move our stall due to flooding before the event had even started. Both footfall and the number of stalls were greatly reduced due to the wet weather. All things considering we were able to raise £192 profit. Thanks also to our bakers Jan, Carolyn, Madeline, Jenny, Mavis, Shelagh, Julie, Linda and Margaret without whom we would have not had a profitable stall! Also thanks to Madeline, Liz, Vicky, Shelagh, Ann C, Margaret, Julie, Ann D, , Mavis and Jan who braved the wet to help out, and a special thanks to Paul for bringing the gazebo and setting it up for us.
The money raised from this event will largely go to increase funds for The Forge WI. A further donation will be made to Heeley City Farm later in the Year after all this years’ fundraising events have taken place.

Next Fund Raiser: Sunday 24 August Laycocks Sports Club. We will have a cake stall, tombola and raffle at this event.
Stall Volunteers: Jan, Carolyn K, Shelagh, Sue, Ann D,
Bakers: Jan, Carolyn K, Shelagh, Julie, Margaret, Carolyn J, Mavis, Pat, Heather.
Thank you to those who have signed up to help on the day or bake cakes. If you are able to bake but not attend on the day please contact Shelagh or Jan to arrange delivery/collection.
NB: We have some of the Bottle Tombola left from Woodseats but we could do with a few more items. If you have anything suitable to donate to either the tombola or raffle please contact Shelagh or Jan to arrange delivery/collection or bring it along to the Wagon & Horses on 6 August.
Craft Corner
We now continue with ongoing projects making baby blankets for Sheffield BLISS appeal, trauma bears or Jan’s characters for Sheffield family court or even start making things to sell at the Christmas markets! Jan has the wool stash should you require wool or patterns. You do not have to come to knit and natter meetings to join in with our charity knitting, contact Jan for patterns etc for our WIPs.
Next meeting: Friday 1 August - 1.30 pm - No meeting
All Craft and Natter dates for 2025 are now published on the Events Calendar on the front page of The Forge website
If you enjoy crafting of any type you are most welcome to join us, or if you don't want to craft just come for a relaxing afternoon/evening chat!.
Book Group
This month's book was We Solve Murders by Richard Osman, which was a cosy crime novel. For people who had read the Thursday murder club, it was different and introduced some new characters that may be used in future books. The general census was that it was an enjoyable, easy read if a little implausible . The book scored 5.5/10
Next meeting: Wednesday 20 August 7.30 Laycocks - Remember Mr Sharma by A.P. Firdaus
Book Group meetings - 3rd Wednesday of the month, 7.30pm at Laycocks Sports Club. For full details see Upcoming Books
Social Events
As Social Events have grown we have decided to give them their own space rather than overload the general monthly news roundup. These updates will be emailed as necessary.
In the meantime, be prepared and complete the online Social Events Declaration form that must be filled in by anyone wishing to take part in an event. The Declaration can be completed online (you'll find it on the members page), or alternatively it can be completed during a monthly meeting.
For future events see Upcoming Social Events book online or at the Social Events Desk
Charity
Once the summer festival season is over we will be contacting Sarah to plan some group visits, for those who would like to have a guided tour of the farm September/October. Heeley City Farm’s next event is a food and beer festival on September 27th. We will not be having a stall at this event, but encourage you to go along.
Have your say
If you have any thoughts or ideas you'd like to share or suggest please use the Contact Us form so we can follow it up.
